Local Authority EV Charging Pilot Programme
Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland is supported 26 Local Authority EV Charging Pilot Projects across Ireland to help accelerate the delivery of neighbourhood and destination charging infrastructure.
What is the programme?
The pilot programme gives local authorities an opportunity to test innovative charging solutions in real world environments while gathering valuable insights that will help shape the future rollout of public charging infrastructure nationwide.
The programme forms part of the implementation of the Regional and Local EV Charging Network Plan and supports local authorities as they develop an deliver EV charging strategies tailored to the needs for their communities.
Why are pilot projects needed?
Different communities face different challenges when it comes to EV charging.
The pilot projects allow local authorities to test a range of approaches before wider deployment, helping identify what works best in different locations and conditions.
The programme will help inform future investment decisions and support the development of a reliable, accessible and user focused public charging network.
What types of projects are being trialled?
The pilots include a range of charging solutions including:
- Neighbourhood charging for residents without access to home charging
- Destination charging at public and community facilities
- Renewable energy integrated charging solutions
- Battery backed charging technologies
- Innovative delivery and operational models
- Accessibility focused charging solutions
