Vehicle Grant Scheme

As of January 2022, only zero tailpipe emission vehicles are eligible for government capital grants.

A maximum grant of €3,500 is available for qualifying new M1 (passenger car) battery electric vehicles (BEVs) when purchased privately.

For qualifying N1S category BEVs (light commercial vehicle), a maximum grant of €3,800 is available when purchased commercially.

For qualifying Mopeds capable of no more than 45km/h (L1e-B category), a maximum grant of €500 is available, while up to €1,000 is available for 
qualifying Motorcycles capable of exceeding 45Km/h (L3 category).

All of the above have a price cap of 60k.

Grants are also available for large panel vans (N1L). The grant amount for these vehicles is €7,600 and have a price cap of 90k.

In February 2025, the L Category Grant Scheme for electric motorcycles was launched - a targeted initiative offering financial support towards the purchase of new electric motorcycles.

Administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and funded by the Department of Transport and Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI), the scheme offers grants ranging from €500 to €1,000 for various vehicle categories, including:

  • €500 for L1e - B light two-wheel powered vehicles (maximum speed of 45km/h
  • €1,000 for L3e two-wheel motorcycles capable of exceeding 45km/h.
