The 2026 Scheme has been allocated funding of €7 million, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to supporting SPSV operators to transition to electric vehicles. This continued investment represents one of the largest targeted EV incentives for small public service vehicles.

“The eSPSV Scheme continues to deliver real support for those who keep our public transport network moving every day. With €7 million committed for 2026, we are continuing one of the most impactful EV transition programmes in the country. This investment ensures that taxi, hackney and limousine operators can upgrade to cleaner, more efficient vehicles, benefiting drivers, passengers and the environment alike.”

Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien

Eligible taxi, hackney and limousine operators will have continued access to grants, making the purchase of electric vehicles more affordable and practical.

The scheme includes:

  • Up to €7,500 toward the purchase of a new battery electric small public service vehicle
  • Up to €17,500 available to operators purchasing a new battery electric small public service vehicle, and scrapping older high-polluting vehicles as part of the transition
  • Up to €25,000 for a new battery electric wheelchair-accessible SPSV.

The continued availability of these grants reflects sustained demand within the sector and the Government’s determination to accelerate the shift towards zero emission public service vehicles nationwide.

Since its inception in 2018, the eSPSV scheme has helped thousands of taxi, hackney and limousine operators make the switch to zero-emission vehicles. Over €65 million has been allocated to date to help over 3,600 eSPSV operators move from fossil fuel vehicles to electric, helping reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality across Irish cities and towns.
